Varisu is an action-drama-based Tamil movie directed by Vamshi Paridipally, who has also contributed to writing its story with Ashishor Solomon and Hari. The film focuses intensely on an entrepreneur’sentrepreneur’s youngest boy who acclaimed his father’sfather’s business, making his other two brothers jealous.
When announced, the movie was titled Thalapathy 66 because it is Vijay’sVijay’s 66th movie, where he plays the main character. In September 2021, the actual work of the film started. The shooting schedule was given a headstart in April 2022, and by December 2022, the whole movie was shot. The shooting schedule majorly worked in Hyderabad and Chennai. But they also covered some occasions in Ladakh, Vishakhapatnam and Ballari. Many scenes were leaked during production, although producers took extra precautions during the schedule.
Varisu was set to release on 11 January 2023 for worldwide theatres and received mixed reviews from their critics. The movie earned INR 310-290 crores, making the film one of the highest-earning Tamil and Indian 2023.
“Varisu” Media release:
Amazon Prime Video acquired the digital streaming rights of Varisu movie and officially sold it to Sun TV. The movie premiered on the platform on 22 February 2023 and was initially launched in Tamil. The platform also showcases the film in dubbed Kanada, Telugu and Malayalam versions.
The Varisu theatrical rights were announced in November and were distributed to the Seven Screen Studios. The company distributed the movie right further with the sub-distributors. Seven Screen Studios allotted the rights to one of the agencies in each zone. At the start, Varisu looked like a promising movie, but the makers needed help to profit significantly.
Varisu Theatrical Release:
Varisu was initially released in the auspicious week of the Pongal festival on 11 January 2023. It was the same day when Thunivu was also released. Originally, the movie was planned to release various dubbed versions in Hindi and Telugu. The dubbed version in Telugu was found to be at risk as the authorities have asked the theatre owner to give priority to the original Telugu movies as it is the auspicious time of Sankranti. This is why the Varisu was initially released only in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The Telugu version was released on 14 January 2023, and people praised the story.
Varisu Movie Marketing efforts:
The movie’smovie’s first poster was released on 21 June 2022, and many social media users criticised the release and stated it was a plagiarised version of Otto clothing brand advertisements. The company replied to the trolls, put forward their perspective, and claimed that the poster had nothing to do with the company. The movie outdoor promotions were started in December 2022. The movie posters were showcased on Chennai Metro trains to reach wider audiences.
Varisu Movie reception
The movie received mixed reviews. As per many, the performance of Vijay left them mesmerised between action and comedy. Some find the film predictable and a usual Tamil family drama. But Varisu received excellent ratings in all cases, and people loved the movie. It was released at the Pongal time when everyone was at home and in the mood to have fun. The family entertainer has left everyone in awe.
