Lord Hanuman is arguably among the most popular and respected deities in Dharma. Hanuman Ji is idolized by those who seek bravery and fortitude in daily existence and, even though most people have a basic understanding of the Gods and their life (because of films and TV shows), there are always a bunch of options surrounding the favorite Bajrang Bali.
Here are some interesting facts about him:
- Hanuman Ji has a son named Makardhwaja.
When Hanuman burned down Lanka with his tail on fire, he went to the sea to cool down and during the process had a drop of his sweat he ingested by a sea creature known as Makara. Makardhwaja was then claimed to have been conceived after his sweat was swallowed by the fish.
- Lord Hanuman was once going to be killed by Lord Ram:
When the court was adjourned after Lord Ram became King, Narada, infamous for causing strife between Ram and Hanuman, requested Hanuman to welcome all the sages except Vishwamitra because he was formerly a King. Hanuman did so, but Vishwamitra was unaffected.
Narada then persuaded Vishwamitra, who infuriated them to the point where he went to Ram and requested that he put Hanuman to death. Ram couldn’t disregard Vishmamitra’s command because he was his Guru, and he killed Hanuman with an arrow.
The declaration was to be carried out the next day in the field. However, all arrows failed to hit Hanuman since he continued to sing Ram! Ram opted to employ the Brahmastra when he had to follow his Guru’s orders.
To everyone’s surprise, Hanuman’s Ram mantras foiled even the most ferocious Brahmastra! When Narada saw this, he rushed to Vishwamitra and admitted his error, putting an end to the agony!
- Lord Hanuman Ji put Sindoor in his whole body in the encouragement of the long life of Lord Rama:
Lord Hanuman was dedicated to Lord Rama to the point of death. When Sita applied sindoor to her forehead, Hanuman inquired as to why she did so. She said that the sindoor was a symbol of her absolute love and respect for Lord Rama because she is his wife and companion.
Hanuman then draped the sindoor over his entire body to demonstrate his devotion to Lord Rama. Lord Rama was so moved by this that he bestowed a boon on everyone who worshiped Lord Hanuman in the future with sindoor, promising that all their problems would vanish.
- Hanuman also wrote his version of the Ramayana, which was said to be superior to the one written by Valmiki.
Hanuman traveled to the Himalayas after the war in Lanka to continue his veneration of Lord Ram, and he inscribed his version of Ram’s story on the Himalayan walls with his nails.
When Maharshi Valmiki went to present Hanuman, his version of the Ramayana, he saw the walls and was saddened because he assumed Hanuman’s Ramayana was superior and that his painstakingly crafted version of the Ramayana would go undetected.
Hanuman recognized this and abandoned his idea. Valmiki, taken aback, expressed his desire to be reincarnated to chant Hanuman’s praises! Hanuman is the symbol of love, friendship, companionship, brotherhood, and the ultimate protector. He has always proved to be the best companion to Lord Ram.
He is seen as a devotee of Lord Ram. According to Hindu mythology, whoever prays to Hanuman Ji, has always been blessed with fortunes.
